Drinkable clean water is a big topic out now a days. The amount of people that don't have clean drinking water is in the billions and is continuing to climb. Minds are working every day to solve the issue or even just put a halt the escalation of tainted drinking water. For the majority of the time, people usually associate UV rays with sunburn. On the other hand, what some don't know is UV radiation has a sterilizing and disinfecting property, making it an effective viricide and bactericide. Actually New York City has approved the construction of a 2 billion US gallon per day (7,600,000 m3/d) ultraviolet drinking water disinfection facility.
Industrial designer Olivia Blechschmidt has integrated the sterilizing benefits of UV rays into his design, the STER UV Water Purifier. The stick shaped sterilizer is simply stirred into a glass or pitcher of drinking water, which inactivates bacteria by destroying its DNA.
