Jay Electronica Speaks on Hiding his Southern Roots in his Younger Years

I can really relate to how Jay Electronica felt growing up in New Orleans and being into hip hop. I grew up in Florida and I don't know if we birthed booty music but, we definitely made it popular. For that reason, I always felt a need to prove to people that I was truly hip hop. So, the majority of the hip hop that inspired me, out side of Outkast and a few others was primarily from New York. I don't feel that way no more because I understand the cultural significance of things and why we did things differently. I love that I was raised in the south! The south is the chef in the kitchen and we feed y'all soul!!
